Potty Training: Day 1

After watching Elmo's Potty Time DVD about 27 times this weekend, I was sure today was going to be smooth sailing. Okay, that is a total and complete lie. I have been dreading this day for months now. Sadie has been showing signs of being ready to ditch the diaper for awhile now but I was the one who was holding back. Potty training scares me. Even after reading pretty much everything there is on the Internet about this subject, I still feel unprepared and without a plan. I went to Walmart last week and bought the Elmo DVD, Elmo panties, a toilet seat cover, & treats for the reward. I was going to start last Friday. Didn't happen. I kept putting it off. That is, until today.

The diaper went off and the panties went on around 9:00 am this morning. We had our first accident at about 9:15 am. I set the timer and put her on the potty every hour. We would sit for 20-25 minutes without any success. We would get off the potty and within 15 minutes, the accident would happen. Sadie would freak out as soon as she felt it running down her leg. I think it scared her a little. I tried to stay calm and positive with her. We kept talking about it all day and I was hoping that at least she would be able to get something into the toilet. No such luck. So 5 pairs of panties later, I gave up for the day.

She now has her diaper back on and hopefully tomorrow goes a little bit better.

Side note: Does it weird anyone else out to hear Elmo and the cast of Sesame Street talk about having to urinate?

That is funny! Yes it weirds me out. I always wondered how they went to the bathroom. Ok, not ALWAYS wondered but you know. Better luck next time Sadie! I know you can do it!

You are a brave woman to even attempt it! Daniel is nowhere even close to being ready. James was easy...it took about a week is all. He didn't even need candy rewards. All he wanted was stickers for his chart. But he was almost 3. So I guess boys are definitely just slower!! Good luck! Let me know if you find any great strategies!

That is so funny that you would do a post about this subject, because I almost did one about the exact same thing today. But mine was going to be about not being ready for the whole potty training business.

I'll be interested and waiting to see how things go for you. I need all the tips and advice I can get for the future! I hear girls are much easier than boys, so you are lucky!!!
