Oh, Thermasilk! Where'd you go?

About a month ago, I realized my shampoo was running low. I was at Target when I remembered this and decided to pick some up. I walked through the haircare aisle and didn't see my beloved Thermasilk. I wasn't too worried because I still had some left at home and I had to go to Walmart soon anyway.

A couple days later, I go to Walmart. I went to the usual place where they keep my Thermasilk and I was shocked to see it was replaced by some other brand. I scanned the aisle but didn't see my bottle. After I came to terms that I wasn't leaving with my Thermasilk, I began the long process of deciding what other, inferior brand I would purchase. As I was comparing labels, I heard a lady next to me say that she couldn't find the brand of shampoo she wanted. I started complaining to her too, and it turns out, we were both fans of Thermasilk.

I ended up buying some shampoo that I'm really not impressed with. I'm upset because I have used Thermasilk since I was in 6th or 7th grade! I love how it leaves my hair soft and shiny. I can't imagine that they would get rid of it! But what else am I suppose to think? Anyone else use Thermasilk? Or, if you don't, what shampoo do you use? Sadly, I may be in the market for another kind.

Update: I just went to the official Thermasilk website and this is what I read:

"As you may have heard, Thermasilk shampoos and conditioners are calling it quits. However, don't think we're ditching you! We've got someone else to introduce you to: New Sunsilk Thermashine. It has the heat-activated conditioning you love so you can style your hair as hot as you like and still walk away with mega-watt shine."

No! No! No! What a sad day in haircare.

This is not good news! I love Thermasilk and have used it for a very loooooog time!! I do have a stash down in my food storage so if you want a bottle I will bring it to Lake Tahoe!

Anonymous said...

YOU'RE KIDDING ME!!! I only use Thermasilk shampoo, conditioner, and hairspray. What are we to do now? I don't know what to buy from now on.

Sara said...

That stinks. Dove had a conditioner that I really liked, but they discontinued it as well . . .

At the moment I use Aussie shampoo and conditioner. It's okay, I guess. But Aussie changed the bottles (which I wanted to blog about at some point), and so I wonder if they also changed the formula. Hm. Only time will tell.

Mom - Yet another reason it pays to have food storage. It's gotta run out sometime though...

Carlee - I'm going to try out the new Sunsilk stuff. I'm not very pleased because I noticed today that it's more expensive than Thermasilk was and it comes in smaller bottles. Not cool. I'll let you know what I think.

Sara - Do you recommend Aussie? I'll look forward to your post to keep us updated.

Coming from a hairstylist's opinion, I think that Thermasilk was the best storebrand product for your hair. That is a shame they are doing away with it.

Whatever you do, stay away from Pantene....it's killer on your hair and can do some real damage (trust me, I've seen it)

Unfortunately, I'm one of those who swears by salon products, so I use the expensive stuff like Biolage and Bedhead. I get all salon products at half price, so if you are ever interested, let me know and I can stalk you up for life (the sales are the best time to bulk up)!!

The Mullins said...

Lindsey, I'd have to agree with Angie. Once you use some of the salon stuff, you get pretty addicted to it. She gets me my Biolage for a killer price and it lasts me FOREVER (I swear she only gets it for me about once a year!)

Jacki said...

Yes, I agree with the two comments above. My sister gets hair products wholesale because she is a hairstylist. If you can get the salon products wholesale, it really isn't that expensive. If you want to try something, just let me know.

Oh say it isn't so! I have been a fan of Thermasilk for a long time as well. I noticed that Target stopped carrying it a while back, but I picked up some at Rite Aid the last time I needed it. Like your mom, I keep an extra bottle in food storage - if I didn't really want it for myself I might consider selling it on ebay...Guess I'll have to take Angie up on her offer and get some good stuff from her. What a bummer to loose a quality product!

Leezy Lindsey said...

One of my roommates did hair so she would always hook me up with salon products. I loved them but once I got married, she moved away and my hookups were no longer. My favorite was Sleek by Matrix. Thanks Angie and Jax for your offers. I'll use the rest of this "other stuff" I'm using and then I'm sure we'll be in contact! :)

Why oh why does this always happen to me??? I went to three different stores today, and it was out. So I just now decided to look on line as to where is all the Thermasilk?? I really loved this shampoo and conditioner, and the spray on detangler. This always happens to me when I like something, it's dicontinued!!! They could of at least given us a warning so we could of stocked up.

Anonymous said...

I too began to look everywhere for my thermasilk. How could they? This is the only shampoo that actually left my hair feeling like silk. I even bought an expensive hair salon brand that claimed to use real silk (silk therapy) and it still wasn't as good as thermasilk. They did't even warn anyone. I just started to see all bottles on clearance. The replacement, Sunsilk, is no replacement at all. It works nothing like thermasilk. Who can we stress our complaints to? Who will care? I hope drop in sales will show the company something!

Anonymous said...

I love the Thermasilk Detangler Leave in Conditioner Spray. I have a little left over and I tried the Sunsilk detangler spray and it does not compare to the thermasilk. It gets the tangles out pretty well, but it does not leave my hair feeling silky soft after blow drying like thermasilk does. I WANT THERMASILK BACK!!!

I have also been looking in all the stores and couldn't figure out why they didn't have any. I am SO disapointed as I have been using this faithfully since it came out and have never found anything to equal it.
It's nice to find others that feel the same way as none of my friends use it.
I was lucky today as I found some in Big Lots but only the conditioner. Thanks to your blog I now know I wont be able to buy it anymore so I shall be off to Big Lots tomorrow to buy as much as I can!
Don't know what I will do after though.
I wonder why they stopped it, wasn't it selling?

hi just a random person who was googleing thermasilk cuz nowhere has it
so i just bought a bumch on ebay!
hahah seems sorta gross
and also drugstore.com still has it
but i think ebay is your best best
i bought 12, 13oz bottles for 39$
goodluck!
im probably going to buy more if i get it and its all normal.

I think you are on to something here. I have looked everywhere for a website about discontinued items. I can't find anything for food or beauty products. We need a website that can tell us ahead of time when something will be discontinued. Also, where we may find it if it goes to another store or something.I really miss Coke with lime.:(

Connie T. said...

I found where they sell it online for you.
http://www.cosmeticmall.com/thermasilkhair
for a short time you can order it. I think I will try the new stuff, probably the same thing, the sunsilk thermashine. I aslo found Sally Beauty Supply has great conditioners in packets. I bought one the other day for $1 and it made my hair nice and soft and silky.
I found your blog by clicking on
next blog, in case you were wondering.

I have to change my shampoo almost every time I wash my hair. Thermasilk is the only shampoo that I can use more than one time in a row. I loved being able to blow dry my hair and it be soft and shiny. Every time that I used it a friend of mine stated that I commerical hair.

Anonymous said...

I was so worried when I went to six stores yesterday and realized that I was not going to find my Thermasilk. If I don't blow dry my hair after the shower I know I will have a bad hair day and only Thermasil allows me to keep it healthy. Hopefully the new product does and same or is the same with a new name.

Anonymous said...

Well I just might be your angel. Certain websites sell it and very cheap for large amounts. They're trying to get rid of their stock so I suggest helping them with that. ha ha. Drugstore.com sells it but only volumizing bu if you google it you will find it other places! I'll try not to buy it all before you get a chance!

Anonymous said...

OH NO! I too am heartbroken about Thermasilk. What's a girl to do! I have used Thermasilk Volumizing for years and it is the only shampoo and conditioner that works for my hair. It leaves it soft, shiny, and full of body. I really do not know what I will do. I noticed that I was having trouble finding it but I had no idea until today that it had been discontinued. When I started having trouble finding it I used another brand (temporarily I thought) and when I went to my hairdresser she commented that my hair had so many split ends. I did not really make the connection at the time but now I realize that it is because I have not been using Thermasilk. This is devastating to someone who has no idea what to use. I guess that I will talk to my hairdresser about it. Maybe she can suggest something new but over the years I have not found anything even remotely as wonderful as Thermasilk. I am so sad!!! If anyone has any suggestions of something even similar to Thermasilk Volumizing please let me know. Thanks!

Anonymous said...

I just used it and I think it's just as good, and also around the same price I paid for it years ago. Seriously, give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

Anonymous said...

This is not good. Not good at all !! Who do we write to? I've been using it since it first came out and my hair is now down below my waist. It's never looked so good and I know it's thermasilk and I tell everyone that. HELP MY HAIR!!!

Anonymous said...

The only one I've found to come close to comparison is John Frieda Brilliant Brunette. I used Thermasilk for years, and it was the only thing I was content with to leave me dandruff free. I never really used heat products on my hair, so the other "thermal" products don't even catch my eye. John Frieda is a pretty good brand though.

Anonymous said...

THERMASILK!!!! I'll miss you. Let's see, I use one bottle of conditioner every 6 months. 10 bottles would make that 5 years worth. Big lots/ebay here I come.

Anonymous said...

Oh, ladies, I've been heartbroken. It's good to read that others love Thermasilk as much as I do. I started seeing it on sale and stocked up, thinking what a nice break for me, only to find out why!!
Thanks for the tips on where to look. I'm still using my stash, but I know it can't last forever.

Anonymous said...

And so it begins.... This is how I have to find out? It's the only product that didn't make my hair feel like a rats nest when I ran a brush through it after drying. Now it's pain every morning. I even bought the expensive brand names and they are horrible. I shall right a ballad of this truly devastating occasion.

This truly is a sad day for all long haired individuals.

This sun silk better be the same stuff with a different name.

Since losing thermasilk products, I have not found a product that I can use and get the same results. I am so upset about this. My hair is not the same. I have been switching around and trying new products, but nothing compares to Thermasilk. Please give me some advice as to what I can use that will have the same results. Please do not tell me thermashine or that new shampoo that you have replaced it with. I have tried the pink, purple and all the other colored bottles. Not even close. What am I to do? Lost in Arizona without Thermasilk....I wish I had stocked up more on it...SAD

how crazy can this be!! you got to be kidding me!! i havent seen thermasilk on the shelves for ever!! i even started looking for them online i dont want sunsilk thermashine!! i want thermasilk it smells soooo good after you blow dry your hair everyone keeps asking what lotion are you wearing? It's not lotion it's my shampoo that smells awesome and now no more!! why???? we need to get thermasilk to continue making their products!!

Maryanne Moll said...

Aaack! That's not good news. Good thing I just bought a large bottle each of shampoo and conditioner. So I will dash to the store very soon and buy off the last couple of remaining bottles I saw. I heat-style my hair so much, and Thermasilk is the only shampoo and conditioner that actually works for me.

Anonymous said...

I am with all of you guys!!Thermasilk was the only one that worked for me and now i am trying too find somthing that would work just as good as Thermasilk and no such luck.. I dont think there could of been a better shampoo and conditoner then Thermasilk. Someone needs to bring them back! They should had warned people about discontioning such a good product. It was the only one that worked good on my hair as well

I can still get the hairspray and mousse at Walmart (I'm in Dayton, OH)-- THANK GOODNESS.

I searched for 3 years to find a mousse that made my curly hair soft, not crunchy, and I found it, and if they take away the mousse too, well, don't complain when my crunchy hair frizzes out and EATS YOUR HEAD because you killed my favorite product.

I lived in Japan for two years, too, and actually had my mom SHIP the stuff to me-- nothing else would do.

you're definitely not alone... my mother and i used it, and she loved their hairspray. i would suggest trying panteene pro-v or herbal essences hello hydration line, those are the best i've found so far, and my hair is very temperamental

It really sucks that, Thermasilk works for my hair so well and since i started using other shampoos my hair is falling this really bites i need this shampoo =( . I'm very sad to hear this

Just did some more research on Thermasilk. Univlever still markets it in Canada. They changed to the Sunsilk Thermashine in the U.S. Supposedly it's the same stuff. But...anyone know of a Canadian drugstore on line?

Anonymous said...

i hated finding out that thermasilk shampoo and conditioner was discontinued. but drugstore.com no longer sells it; only the haircare products. i did find it on shopping.msn.com/ which also led me to amazon.com. so you can buy packages on both of those sites....

Anonymous said...

that did upset me a lot, i loved thermasilk so much. lately i've been using bedhead superstar volume and it's AMAZING. however, it's a bit exspensive, and i wouldn't advise using it if you blowdry your hair because it doesn't seem to protect the hair from heat damage at all (obviously not it's purpose) but if you're like me, and just let your hair air dry, then it works AMAZINGLY. if you're willing to pay a little more, it's entirely worth it. also, dove is probably in my opinion one of the best cheaper products i've used. aussie is okay but tends to weigh hair down a bit, dove is a weightless formula and smells excellent.

Anonymous said...

I am so upset! I have switched to panteen pro v and it ruins your hair! I want thermasilk back!!! I guess I'm not the only one! My hair is awful! I miss my soft shiney hair! I am going to look for the new one described here thanks for the help! Saya

Anonymous said...

I had the same terrible sinking feeling when I went to several places where I used to be able to find thermasilk and there was none to be found. I have very curly course hair and I usually wear it straight. I have used all the expensive salon brands, but nothing made my hair as smooth as thermasilk shampoo & conditioner. I am down to 1 bottle of conditioner (no shampoo). This is a sad day. If Unilever(which I believe makes Thermasilk) was customer focused they would NOT discontinue Thermasilk as it is an amazing product. I am willing to try their alternative, but I hope it is identical to thermasilk, but maybe with different packaging/name, etc. PS - How many of you were desperately scanning the aisles for Thermasilk and were fooled by the purple gleam of the Aussie brand! Oh the agony of defeat!

I agree with all the above, Im highly distressed lol and even had a friend of mine traveling in Asia look for something as good, nothing! Do they care that my hair just doesnt look of feel the same now?? I tried sunsilk, hate it!!!! My boyfriend told me my hair isnt as shiney anymore, I told him write to them!!!! LOL

Just wondering why they would continue marketing it in Canada and not bring it back after so much customer complaining. Amazon.com looks to be my new hair care friend for this line of product. I see all sorts of women making comments but let me assure you, as a guy who works outside all day, gets dry & tangly hair, this by far has been the best shampoo I've ever used. I was so upset months ago when it was no longer on the shelves around town. I'm just now doing my homework on it as I've finally had it with my thin, dry, damaged hair thats now a mess. Case buying seems my best bet now. Again, Amazon.com for all Thermasilk product lines http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_hpc/103-2468288-4719013?url=search-alias%3Dhpc&field-keywords=Thermasilk&x=0&y=0

I have been missing my Thermasilk hairspray. I have a problem with being sensitive or allergic to MANY styling products. Thermasilk hairspray was the only one that didn't seem to bother me and did exactly what I wanted it to do. I have spent a small fortune trying to find a new spray that doesn't bother me--both salon brands and store brands--and have found NOTHING. I will keep searching for my Thermasilk and pray they BRING IT BACK!!!!!!

OH NO! Me too! I felt I was the only one. I just found out the week of February! It won't be the same. I'm very disappointed it's really hard to find something to stick to for such a long time. I hope they make it the same with just maybe a different name or BRING IT BACK!!!!

I found your blog here in my own desperate attempts to find out it's fate. =( now I know. *sob* I too have been terribly disappointed with my search for a new brand. I miss it's smell, I miss how nice it made my hair!

I have a couple of bottles of their mousse, Volume Infusing, I would be willing to ship to anyone, as long as they paid the postage.

I stopped using the mousse a while back and switched to a salon product, and these were always a back up.

I faithfully used the hairspray and am devastated with the discontinued line. I've actually tried a few other brands, Herbal Essences, Pantene, etc. and am SO disappointed. My hair is very curly and doesnt have the same bounce and fullness it had with the Thermasilk brand.

If anyone is interested in the mousse, feel free to email me chefjulia8 at yahoo.

I went to Walmart a few nights ago because I was running low on hairspray. They had changed teh shampoo aisle around so I thought maybe I just missed it. I scanned up and down the aisle like 3 or 4 times before realizing Thermasilk was gone. This hairspray is the only type I had found that does the job and doesn't smell major funky. I spent at least 10 minutes on that aisle going up and down spraying a little hairspray into the cap sniffing it and sadly putting it back on the shelf because it just didn't measure up. I checked publix last night and nothing there either. I'm very upset about this... so I ended up grabbing some Garnier hairspray because it doesnt smell too bad. So I will give that a whirl. It just blows though. Shampoo/Conditioner I recomend though is Tresemme. It's pretty nice.

I am very disappointed! I have used this product forever. I've search all over looking for it...even on ebay! What in the world am I to do? Any ideas? I have tried Sunsilk and it is much more drying. My hair feels very brittle and damaged. Nothing compares to Thermasilk!

I'm like the reat of you I went to the store and couldn't find Thermasilk hairspray and mousse that I love. It's the best hairspay that I've ever used. I went to Unilever website to the webpage with an area for sending emails into the company. I sent an email complaining about them taking the Thermasilk line off the market.

I personally loved Thermasilk as well! I discovered it was gone perhaps in September when strolling through Target, Pathmark, Walgreen's, and other local drug stores. Sadness overcame me.

I was using a brand called Joico for a little while afterwards, which can be found in salons. Although it worked nice, it was too expensive to use all the time. Besides, I like to switch up my shampoos every other week so I try to keep a few brands in my bathroom.

I liked Loreal Vive Pro for colored hair which also works well but I am purchasing Thermasilk Smooth & Silky Shampoo and Conditoner off of Amazon.com as we speak. They sell them as individual bottles and/or 6 packs. They also sell them on Overstock.com.

Happy Hunting!

I googled Thermasilk and found your site. When I started reading I was overwhelmed with grief!! So it is true my Thermasilk hair spray is gone forever??!! I've been looking everywhere! I hate "new and improved" but I would have accepted Thermasilk improved over not having it at all! I think you should send Helene Curtis (makers of TH.)your blog and let's get some power over these companies that abandon a good product. I'm pretty sick of them dropping tried and true products!!

I am from Canada and sorry everyone, the Thermasilk is gone here too. I am in desperate need of Thermasilk. I have tried everything (TreSemme, Pantene, Store brands, Aussie, Fruitz, LaCoupe, Bedhead, Biolage, Herbal Essence, almost any kind you can think of incl.. SUNSILK)... NOTHING WORKS. I am very disappointed that my favorite Shampoo and Conditioner have gone missing. Sunsilk is NOT the alternative and works just as BAD as the rest. I have a very sensitive scalp and whatever I use on it leaves major dandruff and dry scalp (almost psoriasis like). I have even used Tar shampoos etc. Medicated shampoos. I want Thermasilk back. I think we should all PROTEST against this removal. Especially with no warning of the extinction. My whole family used Thermasilk (10 people to be exact) and was looking forward to having healthy hair considering it was never healthy before I used this product. Shame On You for taking it away.
PS: My niece donates her hair for Cancer and grew it long with this stuff. Now she will have broken, damaged, dry hair and broken heart because nothing helps as well for her either and may not have hair accepted next time because its too damaged. Thanks for breaking her heart too.
I WANT THERMASILK BACK!!! Very hurting news.

So in comparison, I've found that Loreal Vive Pro and SUN SILK (which is supposed to replace Thermasilk) have been the best choices... other than salon formula shampoos like Joico.

I am currently using Sun Silk smooth and straight and it works phenomenally! I highly recommend it.

I,too, am very disappointed that my beloved hairspray, Thermasilk, has been discontinued. I have been using it for more than 20 years! I sent an email to comments@unilever.com to complain and I suggest that EVERYONE do the same but I doubt that it will bring the product back.
I will never understand why companies discontinue favorite products. Others just this month are Palmolive dishwashing tablets, Calgon water softener and Lava liquid soap. How depressing. What is the sense of even having favorite products? It is like the kiss of death.

I was as upset as anyone to learn that Thermasilk has been discontinued.

Yesterday I did a furious search for sources.

GOT 'EM!

I got 9 13-oz bottles of conditioner from ebay and 6 13-oz bottles of shampoo from a sort of hidden source through Amazon.

Search ebay for the conditioner, which still seems to be available there.

The shampoo was harder. Couldn't find it anywhere. I went through many pages of a google search and finally found a link to mysimon.com where it was available. Go to mysimon.com and search for Thermasilk. You might still find the shampoo available, sold through Amazon from an affiliate called Imposible Discounts. If you search Amazon directly for shampoo, you will find that it is not available. But it is if you go through mysimon to get to the Amazon page where it is still available. At least it it was last night.

BYW, there are lots of hair sprays and other Thermasilk products still being sold on Ebay. Just not a lot of shampoo and conditioner.

It would be a good thing if everyone posting comments also inclluded the date of their comments in the message so we can see how timely and relevant the message is, don't you think?

Whatta a bummer...
...My wife and I have been using Thermasilk Volume Infusing Heat-Activated styling mousse for a while. We like the product so much that when the stores stop carrying it, we immediately ordered several bottles on web. Major, major mistake--we should have ordered cases of the stuff instead. We had no idea internet retailers would run-out too.

This is not the first time a perfectly good product is discontinued or removed from the shelves of stores for no apparent reason. Like everybody else, I went on a mad hunt for Thermasilk mousse for nothing.

I really hope the makers of Thermasilk hair care products are aware of this and other blogs like it and do something about it.

Oh MAN! I'm glad to find the blog about the whereabouts of Thermasilk, but what a bummer to read the whole truth! Like many that have commented, I went from store to store thinking they were just OUT. NOOOOO!!!! Like others, it works great for my hair, doesn't break me out (very sensitive skin, tried many before landing on Thermasilk) and the mousse and spray does exactly what I need! Tried a new Suave product, and the spray is like standing under a shower mister! Hate it! Guess I'm doomed to search Big Lots and use carefully the two cans of spray I stocked up on. I do NOT know why companies need to do this. Seems like it sold well, at least it was always moving evry time I was looking for it. :( :(

Haha, I thought I was the only one who used Thermasilk. It's a cheapie, but sure worked wonderfully. My next favorite at this time is from Bath and Body Works - Volumizing shampoo and conditioner. Twice a year they do a sale for $5/each and it really is very nice/comparable. Give it a try!!! I did not care for the Thermasilk when I tried it some months back and I don't like Garnier or Paul Mitchell or Dove!!

I have been using only Thermasilk for the longest. I have a unique texture of hair being multi-ethnic, and Thermasilk worked great on my hair. Since I haven't been able to find Thermasilk, I've been using Pantine which is okay, but not the best on my hair. Since alternating shampoos, I have been faced with hard to manage hair and numerous split ends. I will cut my hair again to correct the problem but I need a shampoo and conditioner duo that will work just like Thermasilk worked on my hair type.

More than a year has gone by now since I was last able to buy Thermasilk. I still miss it but have finally "settled" for Dove. I tried many, many brands and that sunsilk crap was the worst. Pantene was a pretty close 2nd worst because of the waxy film it leaves on your hair. Yuk!! My husband misses the way my hair smelled. He was always "sniffing" me when we hugged. Nothing even comes close to that great smell.

Hm....maybe someone should search more sites like these, and email every single complaint to the main ThermaSilk site.....it's possible that they might continue it again if they get enough complaints....unless the company discontinued ThermaSilk products for even greater reasons the press may never find out about....I haven't really did much research; just throwing out ideas....

I too have done hair for a long time and if you want a good product without the salon price try the Costco (Kirkland) Brand shampoo and conditioner. They seemed to be ph balanced and that is what you are looking for in a shampoo/conditioner.

Also about the Therma Silk Delema!!! My daughter got me hooked on the Flexible Hold Heat styler Hair Spray. I also intoduced it to my sister. The last time I went to Walmart to get a new one...I like the rest of you was sorely dissapointed to find none on the shelf. I typed in thermasilkhair.com and was redirected to the SunSilk sight. I thought maybe they had changed the name...but no, that wasn't the case. I use it before my curling iron and it makes a GREAT setter.

Anyway...There are websites that still sell it if you go to google and type in Thermasilk...one word.

Best of luck to all of you.

Lucky for you ladies I have seen Thermasilk at some discount stores one in Bell Gardens, CA they probably have it at like the 99 cents stores;)

I finally gave up looking and decided to look online and found your blog! Thanks although very dissapointing it is nice to finally know if I was just looking in the wrong place. I loved Thermasilk, it is the only shampoo that does not leave a build up on my scalp. For any of you hair professionals do you know what could be in other shampoos and not thermasilk that caused this and also do you have any suggestions for salon products that wouldn't do this. I have tried Paul Mitchell it does the same thing. It's like little build ups of dry skin and they become itchy. Feel like scabs. Help I need ideas.

thanks

I have been looking for weeks now for my favorite Thermasilk shampoo. I finally decided that it was no longer anywhere. After reading all these same frustrations online, I, too, wanted to voice my dismay. I have really thin hair and Thermasilk was the only product that helped me daily with shine and volume. Oh my, lions, tigers, and bears. Oh my! What will replace it? Not much from what I am reading. :(

I too was a huge fan of Thermasilk and then i noticed it wasn't in stores anymore so i googled it to find out why... :(
However, Dove Intense Damage Therapy works wonders on my hair and I often heat style it. Hope this helps

Hi. I don't know how old this blog is, I just googled thermasilk and this popped up. Has anyone found a good replacement for thermasilk? I've been hunting for it for ages. I had a couple of bottles I kept stocked up, but they just ran out and I'm dying! I don't even heat-style my hair, it's just really dry and thermasilk was perfect for moisturizing. I've tried pantene, but I hate the way it smells. If anyone has any suggestions, please pass them along. justagirl68@aol.com. thanks!

I was as dismayed to find that I could no longer get my favorite shampoo. I have so many allergies and Thermasilk was wonderful. I have since tried Infusium 23 and found that it is just about as good to my hair as Thermasilk was and have been happy with it. Hope that you all can find one to your liking!

Try EBAY they have all of it available

Well, im with all of you! i only just noticed it was gone when i finally ran out of my huge thermasilk frok costco. scanning through the posts, i started to feel a little better when i learned that i could get it on the internet. so i went to amazon.com and was so pleased to see it! unfortunatly i was shocked when i learnt that they dont ship it to canada.WHATEVER AM I GOING TO DO?!?!

I don't know how old this blog is either, and I too googled Thermasilk and this came up.... but I just ordered 6 bottles of Thermasilk shampoo from overstock.com for 21.99 (3.67 a bottle). Hope that helps!

Like everyone else I am a big fan of Thermasilk and I don't understand how somebody can discontinue a product that is so successful and brings so much "cash" into their pockets. It is so stupid. I really don't know who took such a stupid decision but he or she should be fired. I'm pretty sure they know about this blog and others; but then why in the world aren't they bringing it back, I don’t know. Every time there is a product that is very popular or has success shortly is taken out of the selves. Why, I don't know. It is a weird way of doing business. THERMASILK PLEASE COME BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!!!!!!!

Fear not! I just found all types of Thermasilk products at http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_hpc/102-6831486-4120955?url=search-alias%3Dhpc&field-keywords=Thermasilk&x=0&y=0

Try it out! Yay, Amazon!

Well, can't find it here in Canada anymore either, I loved this shampoo. I have allergies and it was the only shampoo I could use over and over that didn't bother me. I also loved the way it left my hair shiny and easy to style.

Rats!!

i have the sunsilk cause i couldnt find thermasilk anymore, and it sux, its noting like thermasilk.

I'm from Canada and love or should I say "loved" my thermasilk aerosol hairspray. I want my hairspray back on the shelves!! I really don't want to have to order it online as i'm used to just picking it up at the store when i run out. PLEASE bring back my thermasilk hairspray back to the stores!!! It is the one and only hairspray that works for me. it is perfect.

Anonymous said...

i know this blog is forever old... but i just felt like ranting a bit! i was a thermasilk lover too. I didnt have a huge problem switching to sunsilk... while it wasnt as good as thermasilk i could handle it. My hair is extremely long and even though i dont heat style my hair often, i still use the one for heat styled hair. sunsilks detangler has worked better than anything else available (again... not as good as thermasilk though).
Anyway... on to the rant... obviously i am not ranting about thermasilk being gone - it has been gone for years. HOWEVER!!!! they have now taken my sunsilk detangler away!!!! i can not even believe it!!!!! i am so mad! i settled for the sunsilk detngler and now it is gone too!!!! My hair is impossible to brush out without a good detangler and i cant find anything worth its weight! i am even willing to pay big bucks for a good detangler and i cant find one! so frustrating!!!!

Samantha said...

UGH!!! I still can't get over the fact that they discontinued it! No other hair product comes close to it. Why in the world would they do this???

I just emailed them at comments@unilever.com

Maybe if we can gather enough complaints they'll do something about it.

We can either be lazy and not do squat or if we really want it back give them hell for it.

6/8/09 - I'm so with you guys, Thermasilk Leave In Conditioner is the only thing that works on my hair. I ordered a case online a few years ago and now I've run out. And can't find it online anywhere! =( Guess I have to try something else, but I won't give up looking. =)

Basically the company said if enough people call and request Thermasilk, they might be able to bring it back due to demand. The Unilever number is 866-256-9379. I just called and it's legitimate, they can forward any request to the marketing dept. And put in a good word for the Leave-In Detangler please, thanks!

I was on vacation and had forgotten my leave-in conditioner and picked up Thermasilk at Target - had never used it - it was the best product I ever used and I have spent tons on much more expensive brands. When I went to replace it I found out the brand was replaced by Sunsilk, however the ingredients aren't the same and doesn't work to keep my hair silky. I wrote the company and called. Hope under any name they can still bring back the formula.

This is not good. I have dry damaged hair and I remember using Thermasilk years ago. So when I went to Wal-Mart last night I decided to pick up a bottle. As I looked down the isle I didn't see it, so I just thought Walgreens or Target would carry it. So today I was looking up the website to see where it would be carried and ran across this blog. Well instead of using the salon brands that has been mentioned I decided to purchase Tresemme. Does anybody know anything about Tresemme?

Anonymous said...

wow im sry just saw it as number 1 on another site, wanted to see what there products were, then found out there was no more Thermasilk! I only use pantene suave or herbal essences but mostly pantene or hb they both work great! BUT IM STILL LOOKING FOR A HAIR PRODUCT THAT MAKES MY HAIR SOFT YET MANAGABLE FOR A PONYTAIL OR DOWN. if anyone has a brand that does this please tell

Okay I know it's been two years but I too have suffered the loss of my favourite shampoo. I'm been searching everywhere for the last two years hoping a store would have an extra bottle. It's nice to know there are others out there who feel my pain! Oh and my boyfriend always asks about it because he loved the smell because it reminds him of when we started dating... everyone suffers haha. so sad

Anonymous said...

I was just like you and had a love affair with Thermasilk. I googles it because we were just talking about it at work. I have since been using Tresemme moisture rich and like it really well. Nothing can replace Thermasilk but Tresemme is pretty good!

I am with all of you! I love Thermasilk and am devistated to see it gone. Not sure if you all have a Big Lots store in your area but if so, you may want to check it out. The store in my area does carry the hair spray. I have discovered with other discontinuted items in the past that one Big Lots store may carry say hair spray and another shampoo, etc. So if you have them around you, you may want to check them out...

Unilever wanted the shelf space to market their newer line of Sunsilk products marketed towards a younger consumer at a higher price.

However, hope is not lost. Unilever only took Thermasilk off their USA product list but continue it on their Canadian distribution and website.

Amazon.com is now our friend.

We must be about the same age; not that that matters but I have used Thermasilk for about as long and have had the worst time trying to find it and have done the same exact things you did! They always get rid of the good stuff!!! I also loved the flexible hold hairsray. I have not been able to find much of anything to replace it...I am using Garnier Fructise and it is ok so I guess I will have to go with that.

I don't know how old this is but i'm from canada and cannot get this product anywhere, online or in stores. And since i'm from canada, i'm deemed not good enough to warrant shipping from amazon.

I was also a Thermasilk user. My mom used to be a hairdresser, and that was the best thing I could find. Stuck with it for years. Funny thing is that people used to say that my hair looked like it should be in those Pantene-Pro v commercials! If they only knew... Anyway, I was very upset when I couldn't find it in stores anymore, same story as everyone else. Seeing as how I'm in Canada and haven't bothered to google it until now, I'm guessing I'm just finding this thread too late. I have tried the Sunsilk stuff and it sucks. It's not the same stuff, so I will just keep trying other things until I come up with something as close as I can get. Don't have the money for salon brands, but I'll just have to deal with it...

WHAATTT? this is depressing!! ahh it always left my hair soft, shiny, and smelling good for days after i washed it!! :( They need to come back!!!

I was in desperate need of a new shampoo/conditioner and remembered Thermasilk. I made a run to Target- no luck, Walmart- no luck.

I came home to google it and came across your blog post. Thanks for the info and it truly is a sad day in hair care land.

THERMASILK Heath Activated "Shine & Shape Gel" for "control" was the best hair gel ever made and now they don't even make hair gel anymore. I am a man - this stuff was GREAT - it gave you that wet look with parting in the hair while keeping your hair loose yet refined-looking- and no gunk-build-up of gel in the hair at all. It made my hair nice and uniform and sleek and now I am resorted to settling for Suave hair gel. It "just worked". I didn;t have to worry about styling and making my hair go a certain way because this hair gel took care of it.

I WANT MY THERMASILK!!!!!!! my fiance now husband turned me on to this shampoo/conditioner. I LOVE IT! my hair never had split ends was always shiney and healthy. than we moved on to sunsilk not even close yuck. we must all stand up and protest. there is nothing on the market even comparable even the smell of thermasilk was great. u can get conditioner on e-bay big money but can't find matching shampoo any ideas??? anyone??? i am willing to pay the big bucks and will purchase by the case but we all need to contact thermasilk and picket there factory!

I too can sympathize with all of you. I just spent the last hour reading your comments to see if anyone had a new solution to replace Thermasilk, but to no avail. I have tried multiple products as well and had no success.

However, you can in fact email or call Thermasilk and ask them to bring it back as they "reevaluate their product lines from time to time." I just spoke with someone at the number provided earlier and it's legit: 1866-256-9379

If anyone has another solution, please share it!

Sooooo sad...

Sunsilk Thermashine is nothing like Thermasilk! I ran out of the Thermasilk and switched to Thermashine. Now my hair is back to being dry and brittle. I will try calling Unilever to voice my opinion.

I think I know where Thermasilk went. There is a brand called Kerastase. It smells the same and gives the same touch to the hair.

I've been using it for awhile now, so happy to have found "Thermasilk" again :)

The reason they quit the line?
Their products were UNSAFE!

In hopes that someone who has used the Thermasilk Curl Perfecting Mousse has found a decent replacement, I need to know!

Still after all these years, trying to find something even CLOSE to it has been an expensive challenge.

I just found Thermasilk on Amazon.com and ordered eight conditioner for $3.99 apiece! Not too shabby except for shipping to Hawaii which was about $8. I guess some smarties purchsed boxes of them! Aloha from a fellow Horse owner and Golden Retiever breeder on the Big Island!

i love Thermasilk too. I love the scent and how pretty it makes my hair look. I used Pantene, and my hairstylist said that my hair was so dry... she asked me what I use and told her Pantene... she told me to stay away from it... she recommended Dove and something else, I thnk it's nexxus, im not sure... so i bought dove, and ive only used it once, but i love the scent and my hair wasnt frizzy and it looked shiny... so i think im gonna stick with dove in the meantime... but i do wish that they bring back thermasilk...

I have been looking for Thermasilk for a long time and found out it was gone for good. I found Sunsilk and started using it. But guess what I went to Walmart today and they have quit selling it. Now what are we supposed to do? I really loved both of them. I am very disappointed that the stores quit selling products that we love. I went to Walgreen and found a daily nourishment that says it will do the same thing. I will give it a try and if it does not work I guess I will have to shave my head. Bettie

Well, it's now 2012 and I have one remaining bottle left that I can't seem to want to open/use because I'm reluctant. Amazon seems to only have the conditioner right now, sadly.

I've been using Tresemme now after jumping all over the place with different products. I intend to call Unilever just to voice my opinion on this (should have long ago).

It's funny that the sunsilk website doesn't even work anymore...guess trying to focus on a new product didn't work for them.
